St. James Parish in Arlington Heights, IL was the site for the tenth anniversary celebration of Foundation for Children in Need. FCN sponsors 2000 children and college students in the villages of India. Additionally, thirty elderly individuals are taken care at FCN home for the Aged. Four hundred students receive education at the FCN school. Dr. Geetha provides health education to hundreds of teenagers and free medical care to thousands of people in the interior villages. Each year, the Foundation distributes dictionaries and notebooks to thousands of students who cannot afford them. Additionally, FCN provides free clothing to people in need.,
The honored guests at the celebration included Most Reverend George Rassas, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Chicago and Most Reverend Gali Bali, Bishop of Guntur, India. The celebration began with mass followed by reception and dinner. Nearly three hundred people joined in the festivities to thank God and to share the joy of the great work of FCN.
Bishop Rassas admired the support given by Father Bill Zavaski, pastor of St. James, along with the many sponsors who attended the event, who support individuals in India through FCN.
Bishop Gali Bali lauded the commitment of FCN to the education of needy children in India.
Father Bill praised the hard work of Dr. Geetha and Tom Chitta, pointing out that St. James Parish is richly blessed by their presence and commitment to the poor.
Jo Anne Mullen-Muhr, Board Chair of FCN, welcomed the guests, sharing insights from her visit to India where she saw firsthand the impact and importance of the work of FCN.
Guests were treated to a beautiful Bhartanatyam dance performed by the students of Mudra Dance Academy of Palatine. In addition, the growth and work of FCN’s projects over the past ten years were highlighted in a computer photo presentation.
